Osteopathy in Grays
and North London

Osteopathy is a physical therapy used to treat conditions stemming from musculoskeletal issues. Osteopaths use a range of techniques including manipulation of the spine and joints, mobilisation, stretching and massage.

All osteopaths complete a minimum 4-year degree course and are registered by the General Osteopathic Council. Osteopathy is an Allied Health Profession and many osteopaths work in musculoskeletal departments of the NHS.

Blackshots’ osteopaths have extensive training and experience in their fields and work to the highest clinical standards. We are a welcoming family clinic with easy online booking. We have male and female osteopaths, and our female patients may choose to see a female practitioner, if they prefer.

Keeping You Fit and Healthy

What We Treat

Osteopaths treat a wide range of musculoskeletal and related conditions. Osteopathic treatment is particularly suited to back pain, neck pain, joint and muscle pains such as sprains and strains, minor sports injuries, and joint or back pain brought on by pregnancy, or by lifestyle factors such as driving or office work.

Osteopathy can also often help in the management of chronic pain conditions such as fibromyalgia. We treat joint and muscle issues which may have arisen as a result of the chronic condition, or which may be an underlying or aggravating factor.

What Happens During Treatment

Osteopathic Assessment and Treatment

Osteopaths use a wide range of techniques to assess and treat you. In addition, many osteopaths have their own specialisms – such as dry needling or cranial osteopathy – which they will incorporate into treatment where appropriate.

Osteopathic assessment typically involves visually examining your posture and spinal alignment, palpation (examining by touch), and manipulating joints and muscles to examine their flexibility and correct function.

Treatment focuses on hands-on techniques such as manipulation of the joints and spine, massage and soft tissue work, and stretching and mobilisation of the joints and muscles. Your practitioner will explain the most appropriate treatments for your unique case.

Your First Appointment

What To Expect

Osteopathy is a gentle and non-invasive therapy, and your practitioner will be experienced in ensuring you feel at-ease and fully involved in the diagnosis and treatment process.

After discussing your symptoms with you, your osteopath will examine both any pain areas and also your general body mechanics and spinal alignment. You will normally be asked to undress to your underwear. Your practitioner will also ask you about your general health and lifestyle, and any relevant medical history.

Your practitioner will then explain your diagnosis, how they will treat you and how many sessions you are likely to need, then proceed to treatment. You will talk with your practitioner throughout the treatment session, so you can ask any questions as you go along.
